Paying it Forward with Coffee

On my way to work I pulled into my favorite drive up espresso window (they are on every block here in Seattle) and ordered my usual.  When I went to pay I discovered I only had a $20.  When the Barista, Susan, went to hand my my change I told her to just use it to buy coffee's for the people behind me until it was gone.

The next morning she told me that other's had contributed to the Coffee Pool and she was able to pay it forward for nearly 2 more hours!  She couldn't wait to try it again and we decided to make it a monthly event.

The Sweetest Clerk

Busy as usual, I was rushing through the grocery store. After checking all my groceries I discovered that my wallet wasn't in my purse (!) The clerk supervising didn't even bat an eye. She was so sweet in how she assured me it wasn't a problem, she would hold all my groceries for me and they would be here when I returned. I was so touched that I took the extra time to fill out a comment card thanking her for her great customer service.

Mother's Day is Parent's Day

I had decided to stop by the flower stand to pick up flowers for Mother's Day to give to the mom's in the office. As a single father, I realized that many dad's are the only mom their children have so I bought everyone a flower.  It did seem odd at first handing some of the guys a bright white daisy but the smiles on the faces made it all worth it.  I've already been asked by some if they can help me do it again next year!

The Kindness of Kids

My son and I were walking back to the car from the hardware store when we saw a man struggling to load his purchases into his truck. He had dropped a couple bags and spilled the contents all over the parking lot.  A couple people had walked right past him, I'm guessing because he was dressed like a tough biker with leathers and patches and many piercings.  I have to admit I was a bit intimidated but not my son, he just said "Daddy, that man needs help and ran over to pick things up.  He was the friendliest gent I have met in a long time and the smile when he saw my son bend down to help was priceless.
